May 10, 2007 Monthly Meeting

Harford County Public Library, Bel Air Branch, Meeting Room 1, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Women Who Said "No" to Abortion

  • Jean A. spoke of the difficulty surrounding the pregnancy and birth of her first child, born at 22 weeks gestation.  Some doctors questioned why she would even want to give birth to such a child, who would likely have many developmental difficulties.  Robby is a healthy 22-year-old young man today.
  • Ruth H. spoke about the difficult circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and birth of her third child (pre- Roe v. Wade, 35 years ago.)  Her husband (first husband, who eventually left the marriage) was not supportive and wanted the child to be aborted.  When the medical staff at Johns Hopkins carefully described what would happen to the baby during abortion, Ruth decided not to go through with the abortion.  She has no regrets today about that decision.  Note:  Such honesty and forthrightness about what happens to an unborn baby during an abortion should not be expected today from Johns Hopkins or any other abortion "provider."
  • Sue M. spoke about the difficult circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and birth of her second child.  Prenatal tests indicated a strong likelihood of spina bifida and/or Down's syndrome.  Many people, including some medical personnel and Catholic neighbors, said that she should abort the baby.  Sue believes that a miraculous supernatural intervention kept her out of the abortion clinic and allowed her to deliver a healthy baby girl...who's in her early 20s today.
  • Michelle E., an ER nurse, spoke about the difficult circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and birth of her second child, Sarah, in early 2006.  Prenatal tests revealed that Sarah had a list of genetic anomalies, including no kidneys.  Michelle and her husband were told that Sarah might not be born alive, but if she was, she would not survive long--"so why not go ahead and abort the baby now?"  Sarah's parents never even considered abortion to be an option; Sarah survived for 27 minutes after her birth.  The pro-life stance of Michelle and her husband were a witness and testimony to many people around them.

There were 15 people in attendance.
